Google Earth es una herramienta mucho m\u00e1s potente de lo que podr\u00eda suponerse, y en combinaci\u00f3n con otro software, permite realizar tareas muy interesantes para el trabajo diario.<\/p>\n

Buceando en la red hemos dado con un m\u00e9todo, que en combinaci\u00f3n con el programa Google SketchUp (actualmente SketchUp 2014), permite elaborar mapas geol\u00f3gicos tridimensionales a partir de la planta y cortes geol\u00f3gicos de un mapa preexistente. El m\u00e9todo ha sido desarrollado por Gregory J. Walsh, del USGS. S\u00f3lo necesitamos Google Earth, SketchUp (existe la versi\u00f3n de prueba y no s\u00e9 si versiones antiguas cuando Google ten\u00eda la propiedad del software son gratuitas) y un mapa geol\u00f3gico rectangular (m\u00e1s que nada por referenciar las coordenadas de manera exacta).
\nEl m\u00e9todo no es que proporcione un modelo c\u00fabico en 3D por as\u00ed decirlo, sino que permite visualizar la geolog\u00eda en 3D sobre la superficie, y adem\u00e1s intercalar perpendicularmente diferentes cortes, de tal manera que es m\u00e1s sencillo hacerse una idea de la geolog\u00eda, aunque no tengamos mucha visi\u00f3n espacial.<\/p>\n
